Two recent shooting incidents involving two KPA (Aceh Transitional Committee) members and a PA (Aceh Party)
Two recent shooting incidents involving two KPA (Aceh Transitional Committee) members and a PA (Aceh Party) member in Aceh Besar and Biruen districts, NAD respectively; including a hand grenade that was recovered in Sabang Island. Following are the initial details gathered by from police sources;
On 04 Feb 09 at about 1200 hrs, 2 KPA members (Aceh Transitional Committee) identified as M Nur Bin Mahmud and Zakaria Daud, both residents of Beureunueut village, Seulimeum sub-district, Aceh Besar district; were shot with the use of an FN pistol by an unidentified motorcycle-riding man while both victims were traveling together on board a Suzuki Escudo at Lambada village, Baitussalm sub-district, Aceh Besar district. M Nur who was behind the wheel died on the spot while Zakaria was wounded and rushed to a nearby hospital.
On 03 Feb 09 at about 2330 hrs, the Secretary of the Aceh Party (PA) of Biruen identified as Abu Karim was shot dead by an unidentified armed man in front of his house in Pulo Kiton village, Bireun district. Initial police investigation disclosed that the victim had just attended a meeting in Biruen Kota when the incident happened.
On 01 Feb 09 at about 1100hrs, a live hand grenade was found attached on one of the rear tires of the Toyota Fortuner service vehicle of the City Mayor of Sabang Island while the said vehicle was being washed by the driver at the mayor’s residence. Responding policemen found the grenade wrapped with plastic that was soaked in kerosene while the pin was missing. Police said that the timely recovery of the grenade prevented a possible explosion. They explained that the kerosene-soaked plastic wrapper would slowly melt thus releasing the grenade lever and finally triggering an explosion.
